Alice Draws the Line photo shoot

Today I finished editing photos from a shoot earlier this week with Alice from Alice Draws the Line.
Alice works as an artist from her shop and studio space based in the picturesque village of Brampton Bryan on the border of Herefordshire and Shropshire.

Alice is updating her website to better reflect her work. As well as featuring the shop, her lovely paintings and products, we decided to capture how she works and the things which inspire her. Alice draws a sketch every day so we wandered to the river where she often visits to take some shots. Wildflowers, kingfishers and trout are just some of the species frequently seen in this stunning spot.

Back in the studio I noticed in one corner dozens of well loved sketchbooks lining the white shelves. They contain daily drawings since 2013 (that is over 2,500 sketches!) It is fascinating to see pictures drawn years ago which have now become popular designs. Below you can see photos of Alice holding just a small selection of them!

Alice runs workshops in beginners botanical drawing, brush lettering and modern calligraphy from her studio (and other locations) so she set the table up and we took shots of the space as participants will see it. With the fire lit, kettle on, and delicious homemade Victoria sponge, these workshops are sure to be a magnet for people wanting a relaxing get together in the coming months. I can’t wait to return myself!

‘‘I loved working with you in the summer - it was a highlight of my year. I'd wanted to get brave enough to put my face online and your photos made that possible.’’ Alice

‘‘Andrea visited the studio the week before the shoot so we could chat, look at the space and the light and to hear what my hopes were from the shoot - what sort of photographs I wanted and where they were to be used. One of the main things I wanted was photos of me at work, doing my thing, and some portrait shots so that people could see the face behind the name. All I'd had to date were excruciating images of me trying to take an image myself with a timer. Andrea and I had a good giggle which made for lovely, relaxed shots that I have been really pleased to be able to use.

The day was well planned with the shoot list e-mailed through beforehand, so we both knew what sort of shots we wanted to get during the day. It meant that any props needed were gathered ready as well as a few different outfits - creating a great range of photos that don't look like they were all done on the same day.

I now have a great range of photographs from the day - ranging from creative portraits to candid snaps as I went about my day in the studio, to close ups of work, product shots and images of the studio set up.

Thank you Andrea, this was something I'd been dreaming of for a while and it was even better - and way more fun than I'd imagined!’’
